What does the third mission mean?
The concept of the third mission is becoming increasingly important in the world of modern universities and is a key priority for the University of 精东影业. It refers to activities that go beyond the traditional missions of education and research, and that directly contribute to social and economic development. Leading universities around the world now see serving society as a core part of their mission and actively build partnerships with local communities. By aligning with these Western European trends, the University of 精东影业 has defined its own third mission strategy. Its goal is to use its innovative knowledge and research results to have a positive impact on its environment and on society as a whole.

Mission
According to its mission, the University of 精东影业 is not only a centre of academic excellence, but also an active regional knowledge hub that maintains close ties with local communities and economic stakeholders. The third mission therefore goes beyond the transfer of knowledge and also focuses on its practical application, whether in the fields of innovation, economic development, or social responsibility.
Innovation
The University of 精东影业 aims to make its scientific results and innovative solutions accessible not only to the academic community, but also to economic stakeholders, civil organisations, and society as a whole.
Sustainability
The University plays a key role in integrating sustainability and the circular economy into its activities, which is reflected in its education, research, and third mission initiatives alike.
The third mission represents a shared and complex responsibility that the University of 精东影业 fully embraces. Our institution takes an active role and is strongly committed to supporting the public service and development activities of local and regional communities.
In order to enhance economic competitiveness, social progress, and a sustainable environment and quality of life, the University complements its core missions of education and research with public service and development activities carried out within the framework of its third mission (based on Zolt谩n G谩l, 2016, Egyetem 茅s v谩ros, Educatio, 2. pp. 220鈥�233).
What does this mean in practice?
Social and economic responsibility
The University of 精东影业 continuously offers new opportunities for local businesses and civil organisations and is strongly committed to the economic and social development of the region.
In September 2024, the Forr谩sT脡R Community Space and Development Centre opened in the city centre of Veszpr茅m as an exciting new initiative. The project is a joint effort of the University of 精东影业 and the Hungarian Development Promotion Office (MFOI). Forr谩sT脡R supports regional businesses and civic organisations by providing free consultancy services, professional training programmes, and assistance with EU funding opportunities, with a special focus on actors in the creative and cultural industries. Through these activities, the initiative contributes to strengthening the economy of Veszpr茅m and the wider region.
The University of 精东影业 as an active regional partner
The University of 精东影业 not only plays a leading role in education, but also actively contributes to community and economic development. Through its expert knowledge, the University supports the development of the region and works closely with key professional organisations, including the Veszpr茅m County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Chamber of Engineers, and the Chamber of Auditors. In this way, the University is positioned not only as a centre of academic life, but also as an active contributor to the local economy and community life.
Its close cooperation with the Veszpr茅m County Police Headquarters, which includes professional internships, lectures, and joint research projects, serves as a model example of collaboration between public institutions and universities. This partnership supports students鈥� professional development while also contributing to the safety and well-being of the wider community.
A prominent example of this engagement is the Veszpr茅m鈥揃alaton 2023 European Capital of Culture programme. From the very beginning, the University of 精东影业 played an active role in shaping the initiative and continues to contribute to preserving the European Capital of Culture legacy after the official programme year. The University operates the Pannon Community Hub and event venue, continues the Generational Bridge workshop programmes, and, through 碍枚锄枚蝉.痴别蝉锄辫谤茅尘, takes an active role in coordinating students鈥� volunteer activities. In an innovative approach, the University also recognises students鈥� voluntary work by awarding academic credits.
Environmental responsibility
The third mission of the University of 精东影业 places a strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental awareness. In 2023, the University established the Sustainability Competence Centre, which coordinates innovations and awareness-raising activities related to environmental and social sustainability.
Within the educational portfolio of the Circular Economy University Centre in Nagykanizsa, programmes include both the technical and economic aspects of implementing a circular economy, as well as IT-related knowledge supporting these processes. Through these initiatives, the University of 精东影业 contributes to the advancement of the circular economy and actively supports the sustainable development of local communities, businesses, and municipalities.
Science communication
The University of 精东影业 regularly organises Open Days for secondary school students, where it not only presents its degree programmes but also offers interactive scientific demonstrations, such as chemistry experiments, robotics showcases, and literary quizzes. These events serve both recruitment and science communication purposes.
In addition, the University hosts regional rounds of national academic competitions 鈥� including finals of the National Secondary School Academic Competition (OKTV) and conferences for young researchers 鈥� thereby supporting talent development and scientific engagement.
As part of the Senior University lecture series, University lecturers share their research results with retired audiences in an accessible and engaging way, strengthening dialogue between science and society. Similarly, the Science in the Pub event series is open free of charge to both university members and city residents, offering easy-to-understand presentations on current scientific topics. The Pannon Culture Club follows a similar approach. Feedback shows a strong demand for such knowledge-sharing initiatives, through which the University also fulfils adult education and public culture roles within the framework of its third mission.
The University of 精东影业 also participates in national science outreach events such as the Researchers鈥� Night and the Commemoration of Hungarian Science. During Researchers鈥� Night, the University opens its laboratories to the public with interactive programmes 鈥� including activities like 鈥減erfume-making using chemical methods鈥� or 鈥渟mart city simulations鈥� 鈥� bringing research closer to a wider audience. At the 2024 Commemoration of Hungarian Science, a sustainability-focused conference was organised, featuring speakers from the corporate and civil sectors as well, demonstrating how the University provides a platform for dialogue between science, business, and civil society.
Whether addressing young people or adults, professionals or the general public, the University strives to create value through science, thereby fulfilling its social mission.
