Women in Science: L鈥橭R脡AL鈥揢NESCO Fellowship 2025
In 2025, for the 22nd time, L鈥橭R脡AL Hungary and the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO are announcing their fellowship programme, in the spirit of the international L鈥橭R脡AL鈥揢NESCO For Women in Science initiative.
The aim of the fellowship is to encourage young women scientists and researchers to achieve outstanding and practically applicable scientific results. It also seeks to support and advance the position of Hungarian women in science鈥攅specially in research careers鈥攁cross a wide range of scientific fields.
The programme is open to PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and medical doctors conducting research.

L鈥橭R脡AL鈥揢NESCO For Women in Science Hungarian Fellowship 鈥� 2025
L鈥橭r茅al Hungary and the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO announce the 22nd edition of the L鈥橭R脡AL鈥揢NESCO For Women in Science Hungarian Fellowship for 2025. The aim of the fellowship is to inspire young female scientists and researchers to achieve outstanding, applicable scientific results and to promote the role of Hungarian women in science and research across diverse fields.
1. Eligibility
Applicants must be:
- Hungarian citizens, or
- Foreign nationals conducting research in Hungary for at least one year.
Eligible candidates:
- Female PhD or postdoctoral researchers, or medical researchers involved in scientific work
- Working in Hungarian higher education or research institutions in:
- Natural or life sciences
- Materials sciences
- Formal sciences
Three unrestricted fellowships of HUF 2,500,000 gross will be awarded to women under the age of 40 (or turning 40 in 2025). The age limit may be extended by 2 years per child or for research-related maternity leave. Previous national or regional L鈥橭r茅al鈥揢NESCO awardees may not apply.
A professional jury will evaluate the applications. If no suitable candidate is found in a discipline, the jury reserves the right to reallocate or withhold the fellowship.
2. Application Requirements

- Copy of PhD diploma
- Scientific CV
- Two reference letters from established scientists in the same field
- Full publication list with impact metrics (including SJR classification and independent citations)
- Research summary (max. 3 pages in Hungarian)
- Short research summary (max. 1 page in English)
- For foreign applicants: certificate of research involvement in Hungary
- Statement regarding animal testing (if applicable), with justification
3. Media Participation
Winners agree to:
Attend media training and official program events
Take part in interviews and media appearances
Allow the use of their photo/interview for promotional purposes
Be available for media engagement related to their research for 2 years
4. Fellowship Payment
Fellowship will be transferred in October 2025.
5. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting an application, the applicant agrees to all terms and media obligations listed above.

Application deadline: June 2, 2025
Jury decision: September 2025
Results announced: October 7, 2025
