University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Wins “Student-Friendlyâ€ Category at the University of the Year 2026 Gala

The University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ has won the “Student-Friendly Universityâ€ title at yesterday’s University of the Year 2026 Gala. In addition, it was also ranked among the top three institutions in the “Successful Admissions Campaignâ€ category. At the ceremony held in GödöllÅ‘, the most outstanding achievements in Hungarian higher education were recognized, where the university earned this distinction through its dedicated work for the student community.

At the gala, Minister for Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó emphasized that the renewal of Hungarian higher education is one of the true success stories of the 2020s, built on the unity of sovereignty, performance, and innovation. In this internationally competitive environment, the University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ once again proved its excellence, reaching the finals in two key categories. It shared first place in the category recognizing a student-centered approach with Széchenyi István University in GyÅ‘r, and was also among the best in the category honoring successful admissions campaigns.

Upon receiving the award, Rector János Abonyi highlighted that this recognition is the result of long-term strategic work:

“This award is a great honor for us. Even last year, being nominated in this category was already a significant achievement, as we believe that a student-friendly approach is not about individual actions, but a continuous mindset. As Seneca said: virtue does not come by chance, it must be learned. We continuously learn from one another, and I am grateful for the openness of my colleagues and for our students, who contribute not only with their advice but also through their daily efforts to the success of the university. We promise that the University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ will continue to do everything it can to advance Hungarian higher education.â€

The true significance of this success is reflected in student feedback, as emphasized by Roland Németh, President of the University Student Union (PEHÖK):

“This award is a confirmation of our everyday experience: at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, we are not just one among many, but real partners. I am proud to belong to a community where high-quality education comes with a second home. The direct and supportive relationship between the university’s leadership, its faculty, and students makes it possible for us to gain not only a diploma, but lifelong experiences. This success is shared: it is the result of our active involvement and the university’s student-centered approach.â€

For the University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, the “Student-Friendlyâ€ title and its recruitment successes are not merely achievements, but cornerstones of a shared identity across its campuses in Veszprém, Nagykanizsa, Zalaegerszeg, and Ajka—now reinforced at a national level by this prestigious professional recognition.
