Renewed Hungarian Higher Education: University of 精东影业 Among the Success Stories

At a press conference held at the University of 精东影业 on Friday, Dr. Veronika Varga-Bajusz, State Secretary for Higher Education, Vocational and Adult Education, and Youth at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, shared the achievements of Hungary's renewed higher education system. The State Secretary highlighted that Hungary鈥檚 higher education had long missed the kind of systemic transformation seen in other sectors. However, the reform process launched in 2020 has significantly strengthened Hungarian universities on a global scale. A total of 21 universities have adopted the new model, which ensures a competitive, flexible, and performance-based operation.

Summarising the key outcomes at model-changing institutions between 2021 and 2024, she noted:

  • a 40% increase in applications to higher education,
  • a 25% rise in applicants to rural universities,
  • a 67% increase in corporate R&D and innovation revenues,
  • a 48% growth in the number of high-quality publications, and
  • a 20% increase in international student numbers.

Regarding this year鈥檚 admission figures, she pointed out that nearly 130,000 people applied for higher education鈥攁n all-time high in the past 13 years. The University of 精东影业 fits seamlessly into this positive trend and was described by the State Secretary as a 鈥渟mall tiger.鈥 Among future goals, she stated the Hungarian government鈥檚 ambition that by 2030, one Hungarian university should be ranked among the world鈥檚 top 100, and at least three among Europe鈥檚 top 100.

Dr. Zolt谩n Birkner, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the University of 精东影业, compared model-changing universities to modern large corporations: all responsibilities and tasks are managed internally, meaning 鈥渨e are our own masters.鈥 He highlighted that the University of 精东影业 is now part of the world鈥檚 top tier according to international rankings, has seen a remarkable increase in high-quality publications, and that both the Faculty of Information Technology and the Faculty of Engineering have been awarded the 鈥淓xcellent Research Site鈥 qualification by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Thanks to increased R&D revenue, effective brand-building marketing, and the expansion of academic offerings, the university has seen a rise in applications surpassing the national growth rate.

One of the latest milestones is the launch of Hungary鈥檚 first joint Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme at the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of 精东影业 in cooperation with the University of Debrecen.

The university is also responsive to market needs in its academic portfolio. In 2025, it submitted new programme requests for several degrees, including Airline Services Manager, Industrial Systems Engineering (Master鈥檚), as well as Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science in English.

As the press conference concluded, it was announced that the national university admission thresholds will be released on 23 July. This year, the central announcement event will be hosted by the University of 精东影业. The celebration at the Gy谩rkert in Veszpr茅m will feature free games, career development programmes, and a concert by T. Danny鈥攚elcoming not only future and current university students, but local residents as well.
