The University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ participated for the first time in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026 global sustainability ranking and achieved an impressive 918th place among nearly two thousand institutions. This result indicates that the university’s sustainability efforts are not isolated initiatives but represent a strategic direction permeating the institution’s entire operation. The QS ranking provides a comprehensive overview of how universities worldwide impact the environment, society, and responsible institutional governance. The University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµâ€™s placement shows that its environmentally conscious campus development projects, sustainability-focused educational and research programmes, and transparent operational practices hold value even in an international comparison.

Strong International Presence in Interdisciplinary Research

In addition to the sustainability ranking, the University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ also performed well in the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings compiled by Times Higher Education and Schmidt Science Fellows. Among the 1,267 participating universities, it placed in the 501–600 band, ranking 3rd among Hungarian institutions.

This ranking evaluates how effectively universities can integrate multiple scientific fields to address global challenges such as climate change, the energy transition, or social inequalities. The University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµâ€™s result shows that its interdisciplinary approach and regional collaborations underpin strong international performance.

Sustainability Focus Integrated into the University’s Entire Operation

The combined message of the two rankings is clear: sustainability and interdisciplinarity are key pillars of the university’s development. In recent years, the University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ has launched several programmes and initiatives that are unique even within Hungarian higher education:

it is the only institution to offer the Sustainable Development Specialist programme,

it was the first to accredit a master’s programme in waste management,

it operates a cutting-edge sustainability institutional framework (FKK and Sustainability Committee),

and it plays a pioneering role in the practical implementation of the circular economy.

These achievements provide a strong foundation for further progress in both sustainability-focused and science performance–based international rankings.
