Prestigious honour at the 2025 University of the Year Gala – The University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ named among Hungary’s most student-friendly institutions
The University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ was selected among the top three nominees in the Student-Friendly Services category at the University of the Year 2025 Gala, held for the first time in Budapest on Thursday evening. The award ceremony celebrated Hungary’s most outstanding higher education institutions. A total of 25 nominations were submitted across eight categories, with 14 universities competing for the prestigious titles.
The awards recognized excellence in various categories: outstanding sports activities, innovation, family-friendly operation, student-centered services, charitable initiatives, development of international relations, successful admissions campaigns, and support for culture and the arts—highlighting the best universities in the country in each field.
As Balázs Hankó, Minister for Culture and Innovation, stated in his opening speech: "Among excellent universities, today we celebrate the very best. In Hungary’s renewed higher education system, the focus has shifted to competition, performance, national commitment, support for the Hungarian economy, and the success of young people. We owe our gratitude to those universities that embrace this spirit and raise the quality of higher education to a new level." The minister also emphasized that Hungarian universities are advancing in international rankings: "One of our universities is in the top 1% worldwide, three in the top 2%, and 12 in the top 5%."
“We believe that beyond knowledge, students need attention and personalized development opportunities. This nomination confirms that we are on the right track,â€ said János Abonyi, Rector of the University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ.
He emphasized that the nomination validates the institution’s value-based approach, which guides every decision: paying attention to student needs, offering individualized learning paths, mentoring support, and consciously developing a strong sense of community.

Zsolt Csillag, Chancellor of the university, added: “It is always a great joy—whether in domestic or international comparisons—when the excellence of the University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ is recognized by independent experts. It is especially a point of pride when such recognition comes in a field that may be the most important for any higher education institution: how student-friendly it is, and how well it earns the trust of those who come to learn. This nomination confirms that we are heading in the right direction.â€
The nomination is a recognition of the University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµâ€™s consistent efforts to foster a student-centered approach. Mentoring programs, scholarships, community-building initiatives, and flexible, digitally accessible learning formats all characterize the university’s operations. Together, they contribute to the creation of an academic environment where students truly take center stage.
