¾«¶«Ó°Òµ

Rector János Abonyi and Zoltán Birkner, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Foundation, held talks in Baku on February 16–17, 2026. The purpose of the meetings was to prepare long-term educational and research collaborations with three universities in Baku and several professional partners.

The delegation consulted with the leadership of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, and Baku State University regarding potential directions for cooperation. During the discussions, several academic fields were identified where joint work could begin, including engineering and chemical engineering education, water management, as well as programs related to psychology and artificial intelligence.

As a tangible outcome of the visit, János Abonyi and Gulchohra Mammadova, Rector of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, signed a previously negotiated inter-institutional cooperation agreement (MoU).

The negotiations also covered opportunities for short-term mobility programs for faculty and students, joint PhD supervision, and, in the longer term, the establishment of dual degree programs.

The Rector also met with the leaders of the Institute of Water Problems, the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication, and the company Aqualink. The discussions focused on joint research projects, doctoral and professor exchange programs, and opportunities for university–industry cooperation, with particular emphasis on integrated water management and control engineering developments.

The leadership meetings were organized by the Embassy of Hungary in Baku, and Tamás Torma, Hungary’s Ambassador to Baku, also participated in the negotiations.

The meetings revealed clear professional synergies in several areas, along which the parties will continue consultations in the coming period.
