Hidden Gems in Veszpr茅m You Have to Visit During Your Studies

When you first arrive in Veszpr茅m, your world usually revolves around a few familiar places: the campus, Penny, your favorite coffee shop, a couple of bars, maybe Balaton Plaza if you're feeling adventurous.

But we promise you鈥擵eszpr茅m has much more to offer than your daily routine.

From secret courtyards and lookout towers to medieval ruins and hidden walking paths, the city is full of places that many students never discover during their entire stay.

And what better time than summer to explore them?

Here are some hidden gems in Veszpr茅m that you absolutely have to visit during your studies.

The Hidden Corners of Veszpr茅m Castle

Most visitors walk through the Castle District, take a few photos, and leave.

The real treasure lies in exploring its hidden courtyards, gardens, and viewpoints.

One of the most beautiful spots is the Court of the Fire Lookout Tower, where you can enjoy a stunning panorama of the old town from the castle walls.

If you don't mind a few stairs, climb to the top of the Fire Lookout Tower itself. The view is worth every step and offers one of the most iconic photo opportunities in the city, where you can capture the three castle church towers standing side by side:

  • The Franciscan Church
  • St. Michael's Cathedral
  • The Piarist Church

Nearby, you'll also find the Pantheon of Veszpr茅m, located in the garden beneath the tower. Every August, a memorial plaque is added to honor significant figures connected to the city's history.

While exploring the Castle District, keep an eye out for the hidden courtyard of the Big Seminary and the recently opened garden near the Queen's Stairs. These areas were previously closed to the public and now offer peaceful corners, beautiful views, and a completely different perspective of the city.

The area is part of the Gulya-domb Park Forest, where you'll find:

  • walking trails
  • a running track
  • picnic spots
  • a dog park
  • playgrounds

The highlight is undoubtedly the Queen Gizella Lookout Tower. Rising 22 meters above the forest, its unique metal structure resembles a royal crown and offers spectacular views over the city and the Bakony Mountains.

If you're looking for a summer afternoon activity, this should be high on your list.

The Mini Sculptures of Veszpr茅m

One of the most fun challenges in the city is hunting down the miniature sculptures created by artist Mih谩ly Kolodko.

There are currently three hidden sculptures scattered around Veszpr茅m, and finding them feels like a city-wide treasure hunt.

An English-language map is available at the Tourinform Office on Old Town Square, making it easy to start your adventure.

This may be Veszpr茅m's best-kept secret.

Hidden beneath D贸zsa Gy枚rgy Road, the Tethys Fish Tunnel connects Jeruzs谩lem Hill and D贸zsa City.
